NFTA: DBE Certification Center

Some NFTA services go beyond transportation. The Authority’s Disadvantaged Business Enterprise Certification Program is a federally sanctioned service open to business of all kinds, even if they have no direct connection to transportation.

DBEs are for-profit small businesses in which socially and economically disadvantaged individuals own at least a 51% interest, and control management and daily business operations.

Why does the NFTA have a federal certification program? The Authority has always been committed to disadvantaged businesses, seeking out and helping to promote private enterprise partners. In doing so, the NFTA gained expertise it can share with the community. In addition to a federal program, the NFTA is one of four certifying bodies in the New York State Unified Certification Program (NYSUCP) and is responsible for all DBE certification west of Albany.
