Recognizing the Rail

A big thank you to Governor Cuomo, Senator Kennedy, Majority Leader Crystal Peoples-Stokes and the entire WNY delegation from the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority, on behalf of anyone in the Buffalo-Niagara region who commutes to school or work, visits the theatre district or enjoys the Bisons or Sabres. Your commitment of a $100 million to Metro Rail refurbishment and renewal will ensure our transit system continues to be a vital part of Buffalo – and the region’s – resurgence.

Most of the Metro Bus and Rail’s light rail system has been operating 20 hours a day, every day, for 33 years (some of it for more than 35.) While Metro has worked diligently over the years to keep the system safe and reliable, everything eventually wears out. With dedicated capital funding, Metro can tackle the big jobs, like track and wire repair, elevator and escalator rehabilitation and tunnel work.

This all prepares Metro Rail for growth. With solid infrastructure, Metro is ready to run through the DL&W, and across the Amherst corridor.
