Metro Rail takes home the gold

The NFTA’s Metro Rail has been recognized with a gold award for safety and security by the American Public Transportation Association. Last year Metro implemented new contractor safety policies, resulting in next to no on-the-job injuries in 2019. This was in a year that included rail restoration projects, construction on Main Street and seawall inspections at the DL&W rail station involving divers.

Metro's new safety policies and training have encompassed right-of-way and signal protection training, flagman procedures, compliance inspections, updates to lockout/tagout policies and personal protective equipment compliance. The new policies have led to increased awareness, more professional behavior and positive interactions, that have created a strong safety culture at the agency and earned Metro – and our community – one of APTA’s highest honors.
