Bailey Avenue Corridor Improvement Study

NFTA-Metro, along with the Greater Buffalo Regional Transportation Council and the City of Buffalo, is studying the current transportation infrastructure as well as possible enhancements to the Bailey Avenue Corridor. Metro’s main focus is the feasibility of Bus Rapid Transit and other possible major transit improvements. Bailey is a 7.5-mile-long vital North-South corridor with five bus routes. It has become the sixth highest in bus ridership in Buffalo-Niagara. Some areas of study include sidewalk conditions, ensuring safe crossings, road configurations and signals, bike racks, and bike lanes.

Metro has come up with several possible options after collecting and reviewing this information. The next steps will be designing a pilot Limited Stop service for bus Route 19, identifying funding opportunities, and partnering with the city for low-cost infrastructure pilots.
