Pink and Purple

October is both Breast Cancer and Domestic Violence Awareness Month. This year, the NFTA is recognizing each with changes to its family of websites, social media platforms and symbols across its divisions. At the Buffalo Niagara International Airport, lights illuminating the entrance flags are tinted pink and purple. Metro’s Fountain Plaza Station is doing the same. Transit Police have added pink and purple to badges.

Domestic violence is prevalent in every community, and affects all people regardless of age, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, gender, race, religion, or nationality. Breast Cancer affects one in eight women in the United States. But the good news is death rates from breast cancer have been on a steady decline, due to better screening, early detection, and increased awareness. Perhaps, in at least a small way, from programs like this one.
